Rangsit. Rangsit,108,208 Now, this is a story and a half !

At this place, just north of Bangkok, there is meant to be the National Science Museum, and an area where a large variety of lotus are grown.

So, we got off at the train station, and asked around. Whew ! Most people had no idea where, and those that did had no idea of how to get there, but that didn't stop them telling us how to get there - get song tow to soi six at this stop, and then we found out later that it did not even come this way at all !
Bus stops, if you can find them, have no list of bus numbers/bus routes, hence the questioning.

So, two hours of asking/walking/waiting/taking a long bus ride/having lunch/being told it was only 3km away/getting a taxi (10km !), we found the lotus area; it is part of a university, but Suvapa did not know this beforehand.

The lotus at last.

Ok, the previous picture was also of the same lotus area, but it would have spoilt my slight whinge.

Well worth the journey, at last. Very pretty collection.

I took lots of pictures of the flowers, just too good to miss. Particularly after the major expedition of getting here.

The problem is that Thais are not really interested in their surroundings; they know how to get to work/home/food, and seem to care very little for anything outside their building, including its state of repair.

And almost ensuring that you need a car to get to the Science Museum/lotus does not help spread the news.

Ok, so this and the next picture are of the same flower.

This is, apparently, Australian, and is classed as a giant; it is about 6 inches across

I decided to take a closer picture, mostly to show the seeds in the centre.

Thais eat these seeds, but I admit to not being all that keen on them. Maybe I tried the wrong ones.

These are, apparently, Indian in origin.

They have a strange arrangement of leaves around the base of the flower.

OK, maybe not strange, poor plants, but different from most of the others here.

I was not expecting such a vivid blue.

Needless to say, I really like this one.

This might be called 'King of Siam', as they were selling one of that name, but shown seperately. The KoS has bottom petals that are bright green underneath, and you can't see if that is true for this one.

And they had none in stock, otherwise Suvapa would have bought KoS for her ponds.

This, and the next one, are a pale shade of blue/lilac.

More square than round, it seemed.

I know that you don't get square flowers, but some of them had a definite symmetry of the not quite round type.

Honest.

A double flower.

This was the only one that we saw here. It is a large site, so we may have missed any others.

Too good a cluster of small flowers to miss.

Well, I thought so, and I'm taking the pictures here.

This is the yellow version, and the following is the white.

They are tiny flowers, about one inch across, and frilly.

Odd.

Here is the white version.

They are almost too delicate to touch, but I did anyway.

These will generally have no comments, as I did not find out anything special about them.

Mind you, they are rather pretty, so I took the pictures for you to see.

Of course, you may be tempted to not scroll down. But you will miss some rather good pictures (blowing my own trumpet ?).

This flower is bordering on the square.

If you use your imagination a bit.

Go on, you know that you want to.

Thought that it was about time that I took a picture of a bud.

So I did.

These will generally have no comments, just like the pink ones, as I did not find out anything special about them.

Could not decide if white or very pale pink.

So I called it white.

With pink edges.

I think that this is the same flower as the next one, taken from a slightly different angle.

Same as above ?

You decide.

And, what is wrong with having too much of a good thing ?
